Dr. Demetrios Kostas Stathis, also known as Jim, of Cocoa Beach passed away unexpectedly on September 11, 2020.

He was born on May 20, 1942 in Agios Haralambos, Greece and moved with his family to Kentucky when he was seven years old. He treasured his education and earned three degrees from the University of Kentucky, the highest being his Medical Doctorate Degree. He was an avid reader and never stopped learning. “Knowledge is power” was one of his favorite sayings. He had an open mind, and was always passionate and excited to share new theories and information with others.

Demetrios was a highly respected physician in the Brevard County area. He served as an anesthesiologist for over 36 years. For 31 years he served at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, where he provided exceptional medical care to his patients. Dr. Stathis was a shining bright light and was loved by all who knew him. He was a one of a kind type of guy, known for his big smile, positive attitude, crazy hats, and rock-n-roll music.

Demetrios married the love of his life, Diana Pappas, in 1991 and together had two sons, Constantine and Alexander. Hands down, his sons were Demetrios’ greatest and most rewarding accomplishment. He truly loved and valued his family and friends.

He lived a blessed and beautiful life which included traveling the world, rocking out, and impacting the lives of anyone who crossed his path. He was a generous man with a big heart and loved by all. He was proud of his Greek culture and heritage and was a huge fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. If you were Greek or a UK fan you were instant family. Demetrios was a man of deep faith. He truly left behind a legacy and will always be remembered.

He is survived by Diana, his loving wife and best friend of 29 years. Loving sons: Constantine and Alexander. Brother: George Stathis (Hedy) of Kentucky. Sister: Evelyn Stathis of Greece. Nephews and nieces: Gus (Angie), Selina, Michael and Elaine Stathis. Great nieces: Ashton and Alyssa Stathis. Mother-in-law: Mary Pappas. Countless family and friends from Greece, FL, KY, CA, NC, and NY.

Proceeded in death by Parents: Olga Theofanis and Kostantinos Stathis
