Welcome to the memorial page for

Helen M. Miorelli

June 3, 1926 ~ August 30, 2017 (age 91)

Helen Miorelli, 91, mother and business woman passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, in her home in Cocoa Beach, in the close company of family.  Born Helen Mollick in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, she graduated high school in 1943.  She went to work in various businesses from Hazelton to Miami. She married Joseph W. Miorelli in 1951 and started her family in Philadelphia. The Miorelli family lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota before moving to Cocoa Beach in 1962 for the space program.  During the Apollo program in the 1960's she worked in various capacities for Boeing.

Helen began selling real estate in 1969 and sold the first condominium in Cocoa Beach. She received the 1974 Kenneth S. Keyes Creative Business Ability and Professional Service in Real Estate Award for putting together a large and creative sale involving condominiums and land.

Helen was active in politics throughout her life. She was a member of the Brevard Federated Republican Women and an advocate for women’s equality in the workplace, including marching with NOW in Tallahassee supporting the Equal Rights Amendment.

Helen was very active in the community throughout her life. She was one of the first parishioners at Our Savior’s Catholic Church, an early member of the Friends of the Cocoa Beach Library, the Women’s Club of Cocoa Beach, and was Queen of the Cocoa Beach Surfside Belles Red Hat Society. She was also an avid bridge player.

In 1977, Helen joined her husband to manage Miorelli Engineering, Inc., an engineering and construction business based in West Melbourne. Its successor company, MEC, is run by her children and grandchildren. Helen retired in 1991.

Helen’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She lived the feminism she marched for: an equal partner at home and at work. She often commented “we are so blessed.” Helen was passionate about education for her children and grandchildren, seeing all of them through college.  She was proud of the obvious achievements of college, careers, and financial success, but it was the values that she lived and instilled in all her family that created a strong and supportive bond among her 33 living descendants (with spouses).  Their mutual love and respect was Helen’s pride and joy.

Helen is survived by her children Mark Miorelli (Patricia), Lisa Neal, Luke Miorelli (Jan), and Joseph Miorelli (Aleida). There are family visiting hours at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, 101 N. Brevard Ave., Cocoa Beach, Florida on Wednesday September 6, 2017 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral, including a memorial mass and internment, for Helen will be held at Our Savior’s Catholic Church, at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 7, 2017.  In lieu of flowers send donations to Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches camp program to which she donated her bridge winnings each year.
