Dollie Hendershot Snyder, formerly of Oviedo, FL, Bethesda, MD, and Lower Salem, OH, expired quietly at INOVA Alexandria hospital, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. She was born to Herman and Bertha Hendershot in Lower Salem, OH on February 7, 1920.

Survivors include her sons, James, Jr., his wife, Gloria, and their daughter, Kimberly and her five children, Keeley, Malia, Carter, Marley, and Levi, son, Daniel, and two sisters, Betty Turkal, Richmond, VA, and Velma Wall, Winter Springs, FL.  Both sons live in Alexandria, VA.  Her husband, James M. Snyder predeceased her in May 2017 and her brother Warren in 1986.

Mrs. Snyder was graduated in 1939 from the Marietta Business Institute in Ohio where she was a member of the Alpha Iota International Honorary Business Sorority.  In 1940, she accepted a temporary Civil Service appointment in Washington, D.C., which evolved into a Government career mostly in the secretarial field in D.C. and Germany, France, and Russia.  In the 1980s, she was employed on a part-time basis by Irving Burton & Associates for report editing and for word processing.  For seven years, also in the 1980s, she did part-time work as a volunteer at The White House.  Many interesting experiences occurred as when she manned Nancy Reagan’s D.C. Office during the Republican Convention in Dallas in 1984.

In recent years, Mrs. Snyder was an active member of the DAR, but her main concern had always been caring for her children during her husband’s frequent business trips around the globe.  She was a longtime member of Faith Viera Lutheran church in Rockledge, FL.  Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Road, Tampa, FL  33607

A Celebration of Life for Dollie will be held at Arlington National Cemetery along with her loving husband , Lt. Colonel James Marcel Snyder, United States Air Force, Retired, at a later date to be announced
